In 1993 the Lord impressed upon the heart of Elder Phillip Hamilton to start a ministry in Knoxville, Tennessee. The first service was held in his living room with his family. Later, Sunday services were held at the Holiday Inn, Cedar Bluff. Then the Turkey Creek III Center became available and services were next held there. After this, the Lord opened the door for Elder Hamilton to have Bible Study in the "This is It" restaurant. Then, Elder Terrence Pitchford, Pastor of Refuge Temple Church invited Elder Hamilton to share in their Sunday services while the church was still yet in it's growing stages. The Lord began to draw children from Lonsdale Homes and Western Heights. Elder Hamilton continued to hold services and teach the children the way of the Lord. Sister Debra McLeroy began visiting the church and became the first adult to join the church.
In 1995, Elder Hamilton learned of a building for sale. It was purchased and housed the church until September 2006. The first service in this building was held on Sunday, May 7, 1995 with seven children and three adults. The Lord has since blessed the ministry and they were able to burn the mortgage on May 27, 2000.
On May 30, 2006, Children of God Ministries was further blessed and able to purchase an 18,000 ft2 building located at 309 Deaderick Avenue which is now the present location. On October 28, 2006, a church dedication and mortgage burning service was held to honor and praise God for his many blessings on this ministry and to celebrate our glorious circumstances. Today, the ministry is continuing to grow and the mission and the vision of ministry are going forth.
