The Sunshine Band is an auxiliary of the Women's Department of the Church of God in Christ, Inc. It was organized by the founder Bishop Charles H. Mason in 1911 for the purpose of ministering to and nurturing our children ages 12 and under. The first International Sunshine Band President was Mrs. Lydia E. Hinsley. Upon her death the torch was passed to her granddaughter, Dr. Lytia R. Howard who is the current president.
The Sunshine Band currently has chapters across denominational lines is located throughout the United States.
The primary focus of the Sunshine Band is to reach out to our children, and offer an opportunity for them to receive salvation in their productive years. Through meaningful and wholesome activities such as music, bible study, drama, arts, and crafts, field trips, and special worship services, retreats and workshops; our children can be instructed in the way God wants them to go. We desire to build a partnership between the home, the school and the church in order to provide a spiritual foundation for each child.
The Sunshine Band teaches children about God; the love of God and God's Son Jesus; basic Bible concepts and knowledge; the ins and out of minstry servng; scriptures that provide a foundation for understanding, faith, love, grace, salvation and practical precepts for living holy and productive lives.
Through the Sushine Band children have the opportunity to learn, lead, follow, teach, explore, display their talents, develop and grow under the prayerful leadership of local volunteers. Activities are planned for each age group according to their physical, social, emotional and spirtual maturity.
Our main endeavor is to "Bring Them In" from all walks of life to a victorious walk in Christ.
